A man dressed as a woman is more offensive in today's society, anyway. I don't know if that is fair, though. As far back as I can remember, it has been judged to be okay for woman to wear pants and shirts. I guess there are many double standards in this world.
Maybe, there is an exception in Scotland, though. :o)

It really depends on the body type of the transvestite in question. If it is either a slight, skinny man dressed as a woman or a really tall, buff woman dressed as a man, they can pull it off pretty decently. However, a tiny, thin woman dressed as a man or a 6'4" giant hairy dude dressed as a woman both register pretty high on the Ick Factor.
