stay aqay from quick fix cncepts that want to put Chemicals on your loawn, they get more expensive as time goes on, and thatys how the business makes money, they convince you you need them, they start out at a moderate price, and over time, they go up and up, and yur lawn delicate state will depend on there chemicals, kind of like rug cleaning companies, next thing you know you need them every month, because the stuff they clean your rug with, actually traps more dust and dirt that your vacumm is unable to wrestle out ofthe sticky cleaner residue, Chemlawn as with easycare lawn and all the others thrive on repeat service, once bitten your lawn is basically addicted to there process, take the longer route, so this year you have a crappy lawn, but take the time, and minimal cost, have your lawn rototillered, rent one there simple to operate, then liberally spread grass seed, and don't skimp on it, pack down with a weighted lawn roller, also available at most home and garden type stores to pack it down some (don't go nuts on this, just enough to firm it up) then cover with some hay, keep it moist, this holds in moisture and keeps the birds from eating most of your seed, they'll get some, but thats the price you pay to nature. string it off to keep foot traffic off it, in 6 to 8 weeks or next spring if your in colder climate, and next spring your'll have a nice lawn, or do this in early spring afte rthe last fromst if to late in season.

I would say to maybe try "do it yourself" route first.. Get an aerator or borrow one.. Get some seed from Walmart or wherever and try it yourself first.. Chemlawn is very expensive.. I would try it as a last resort... My neighbors have a gorgeous lawn.. They just put grass seed down in the beginning of the spring and water every other day.. It's very soft and green and healthy.. We can't get ours to grow thick and healthy...

no, water it to loosen soil and use a razor sharp hoe to pull up all the weeds, and loosen the soil then apply some new seed, good stuff, like scotts and rake in, dont compress it and water constantly and lightly daily, new beautiful lawn in a matter of weeks!
