I personally believe that it is someone expressing themselves in a manner that while I may not approve of is in the US protected by free speech. Words are tools. Like a hammer can build a house, smash a thumb or crack a skull. But it's not the fault of the hammer. The same with rap music, it is an art form. Art has been used to inspire, polarize, incite and degrade.
That being said I personally find most rap music it sexist, racist, selfish and bigoted. It often preys on the dissatisfaction and frustrations that many feel against perceived injustice to gain a buck. But then again most of the motivation for commercial activity is to gain a buck.
You want a ban on rap music? Then what is next in the Bible there is swearing, violence, nudity and all kinds of things. If you HATE something that is fine but don't make more laws that our 'fair' government will enforce.
I am under the personal opinion that we need to STOP relying on the government to babysit our children and ourselves and say HEY I don't like this so I'm not going to listen. Rather than giving up more and more of our freedoms to not be inconvienced.

I do not like or listen to rap. However, rap, like all artforms is an expression of the human condition. If it is violent and profane, then it must be a reflection of a violent and profane lifestyle. The fact that it is so popular must mean that it resonates with a large audience. That must mean we live in a viloent and profane society. Guess what? We do! Banning the musical expression of a decaying society will not prevent the decay of the society. Banning rap music is like trying to patch a leaky dam with a band-aid. It is better to spend your time and energy trying to change the society that creates, fosters, and embraces rap, than to simply try to legislate the mirror away.
By the way: Rap IS banned in MY home. My children can choose to listen to it when I'm no longer putting a roof over their head. Then again we don't watch MTV either. There is a lot of stuff out there not fit for children. Why single out rap?

I think metal rock is worse but I don't agree with you because some aren't about swearing and violence and I love those kind of rap. I know it's highly improbable to ban rap music so here's what you should do: turn off the radio whenever you hear rap about violence or anything else related to it. Never in any ways listen to it because it's one of the causes of violence in the world and the kind of music that creates internet trolls.

no one has a right to ban any kind of music. Rap is poetry from the streets. It is our CNN. People wouldn't have an idea of how hard the ghetto is if it wasn't for rap. It's like Ice Cube said, "They don't know, don't show, or don't care." Rap music is the only connection with the media we have. We have a war on oil, but ignore the war on poverty in our land. And the media? the media is controlled by the govenment and they don't want others to see they can't control the situation in our own backyard.

I don't star when people ask for stars. It kind of defeats the purpose. I also don't think we should ban hip-hop. That is a ridiculous notion. You might as well ban anything else that's "degrading to society" and et cera. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. If you don't want the kids to listen, turn it off. It's that simple. There are far more better things to be concerned about.

You are a complete idiot. I can't stand idiots like you.
Rap is an artform, it's not going away because some white soccer mom is afraid of swear words.

I'm sick of these questions if you don't like rap then rap isn't made for you so change the channel and STFU just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not important to someone else that's like alliminating anything that has to do with rock rock and all it's sub-genre would be gone besides why the hell should you worry so much about what you don't like instead of just focasing on music that you like

I detest the content of much rap. And while I would like to see it disappear, I don't think that it should just be banned. You've got the whole free speech and self-expression thing going on.

I'm not its biggest fan, but to call for a ban is simply ridiculous. Ever heard of freedom of speech? Or freedom of expression?
