Yes I do. It really annoys me when someone doesn't use them. How difficult is to say please or thank you?? Manners don't cost a thing!! Use them.
Thank you!!

I do think manners are lacking in our society and it can actually be frustrating, especially when you're driving

...one thing to be aware of, and I am not defending anyone, that different cultures/countries value manners in different ways.
So, when someone from 'culture A', whose people don't say 'please' when asking for something, socialise in 'culture B', whose people do value these kinds of manners, the person from culture A is perceived to be rude...when in actual fact, they are only behaving as they do in their home culture.

Some people would probably argue that the person from 'culture A' should learn the manners of 'culture B'. That is a valid arguement but some things either take time or it is a matter of choice...

It really annoys me, especially when the kids I pass are polite, open doors, say thank you, etc., but older people don't bother and really can be blatantly rude - standing there while I stuggle with a door and a pushchair and shopping, or ignoring me while I melt into a hedge to let them past.
I know I'm generalising but it does seem round here children have better manners than their parents.

Plushy_bear - Thank you! What really drives me mad is when my 2 1/2 year old uses all his strength to hold a door open for someone and they don't say thank you. If you have worse manners than a 2-year-old, there's something very wrong!

I really do and I think a lot of young people are lacking in manners. They think it's ok to spout off with an attitude and not be respectful. It's too bad. Either their parents have not taught them or not corrected them when this behavior started.

You can be you without being rude. Some people wear rudeness like a badge of honor. You can also get your point across without being rude. Tact is an important asset to know.

100% yes! It annoys the hell out me when I am polite and the people I am polite to do not respond in kind. Manners begin at home and I am sure the people on this site have trained their siblings well in the art of good manners.

They most certainly are! having good manners is a direct result of good parenting. Something that is sadly lacking in recent years. Bad manners is one of my pet hates! it costs nothing to be polite.

Absolutely, manners and respect for others, that's what is wrong with today's society. People have none of either. The biggest problem is kids having kids, they haven't been taught manners or respect so their kids don't get taught it either. This makes me sound like a miserable old bas**rd but I'm only 34.

I am constantly disappointed in the dropping standards in this society.

My 17 year old son has been brought up to have perfect manners and it saddens me to witness doors being shut in his face or adults walking past without a word as he stands holding a door open.

yes i do, i think it has a lot to do with the way most of the children are being raised these days. they aren't taught any morals, respect, or manners. not all children but a good majority.

Manners perhaps, but I'd say that politeness is more lacking. Manners, when you consider what they encompass, are a rather tedious compendium of artificial rules, often trying to say how to be polite.

yep..
however it depends on the place..
If your in a high class restaurant people treat you like a king, so in gratitude of making you feel comfortable you say "thank you" or "please hand me ..." hehehehhe..
but if your in a police station or in wet market..people there are not obliged to treat you well.. so bad manners rule..

i believe that people had it with them but it may not be used due to environmental or parenting factors.

people react positively if they were treated positively..
RESPECT is the main thing..
