No manned missions have landed there yet. In 1971 two unmanned Soviet space craft landed on Mars, but both failed. The first one crashed and the other failed 14 seconds after landing. The next space craft to land were the two NASA Viking spacecraft in 1975. They returned the first pictures from the surface.

I believe it was the "viking" unmanned space probes
from NASA/JPL, in 1976.

These sent back video and analysed soil samples
for signs of primative life.

Turns out most primative life is back on earth.

man has never landed on MARS. there have been explorational vehicles there but no humans.
