OK This is one of the best questions to ask regarding the formation of our government. To understand the system you need to know a little history: When the framers of the consitution were putting it together, smaller states were very worried that they would have very little say in the government. That is why the senate has 2 senators from every state - REGARDLESS of how big the state is. Meanwhile, larger states wanted their due, so the house is based on population. So when it came to the presidency, the same situation was afoot. Smaller states were worried that a presidential candidate could win many small states - but all the other candidate had to do was win one very large state to negate the votes of many small states. Again, no one would agree to this -since, the president would have only gone to one state and the other states would not have mattered. So the compromise was this: Each state will have a number of electors equal to their number of house and senate members. Whether you win the state by one vote or a million votes, you get all the electors - for that state. While this did not totally discount the larger states, it gave the smaller states enough power to be important. Even if a candidate won one big state and got all their electors, he/she would still need to win some small states in order to get the presidency. While not a perfect system, it helped even out power between the small and larger states. Hope that info is helpful.

Florida was 2000's whine story. Ohio 2004's. The Democrats will come up with a new state to cry about in 2008. It is so much easier to whine and complain about being cheated than to actually run a decent candidate and win a campaign. With the past two crying fest elections, and the do-nothing congress, it may take more than one state to cry about this time.

The Democrats will win the election, even in an attepmt to steal Florida's votes again. There has been a shift, due to the war in Iraq, with states like NM, AK, IA, and OH leaning democratic. There is no way to lose, regardless who the candidates are on either side, the world would not survive another 4 years of a Republican in office.

I am sure that the election officials will be watching it very closely. Unfortunately, since the Reagan revolution, Florida has been able to stack the deck in favor of Republicans and have winked at certain improprieties at the polls at where the votes are counted. The Republicans are the ones that have pushed for electronic voting rather than paper ballots and some ballot boxes in voting districts and areas that have a majority of registered Democrats seem to get lost.

There is no way that one party or the other can take away any or your electoral votes. The Electoral College for elections was created by the authors of the U.S. Constitution. Each state has a number of electors equal to the number of its U.S. senators (2 in each state) plus the number of its U.S. representatives, which varies according to the state's population.

One would hope that the people of Florida would be doing so. Just as the people of each state need to be aware of what is going on in their particular area.

I will be praying for your State. I know you got a raw deal both times that George Bush Jr. ran. I pray that the Republicans stop the stealing, and dirty tricks. You deserve to have your real votes counted.

We don't even know if Florida is going to be there after hurricane season and if it is it will have a smaller population so you might not have 27 electoral votes anyway.
