The only way I see him getting a lot more money than he's getting now is if he goes back to Texas. Right now, the Rangers are paying a lot of his salary (about $10 million/year) as part of the trade deal they made. If ARod opts out, then they get out of that obligation.
He says he wants to play for a winner, which rules out Texas. If he opts out, that means that he really can't stand playing in New York. In that case, I'd bet on him going to the Angels. They could pay him a lot, and the fan base is less harsh than in New York or Boston, which would be the other places he could get paid. If he really just wants to win in a pleasant city for ballplayers and doesn't care about the money, maybe he'll play 2B for the Cardinals.

I am a Red Sox fan, and I really hope he DOES NOT come to the Red Sox. I am not disputing the fact he is hands down one of the greatest players in the game today, but he is a clubhouse cancer. He is a very selfish player who really only cares about himself. Take a look at his career, what team has won it all with him? I am not saying he is the only guy on the team, but he seems to bring everyone down.
I think he will opt out solely becasue Boras is his agent. With the season A-Rod is having, Boras will get him $30 million maybe even plus some. There are not many teams that can afford that, I do see him going someplace where the pressure is not as great. Boston and NY are two of the most passionate sports cities. The fans not to mention the media will boo you right out of town if you do not perform. It is no secret is he gets his $30 million every at bat, every ball hit to him is going to be scrutinized. If the Cubs did not sign Soriano to a huge contract, I could have seen him back with Lou Pinella. I could see him in LA, maybe even San Francisco; since they have made it known Bonds will not be back with them next year. That frees up a lot of salary plus leaves a void of a big draw for the fans.
I do know that I have heard multiple time if A-Rod does opt out Boras will not allow the Yankees to negotiate with him. I also don't see the Yankees paying $30 million considering Posada and Mariano are both free agents at the end of the year. Believe it or not, even the Yankees have somewhat of a budget.

I think he will definatley opt out.
I see him going to the Red Sox....yes they are my favorite team but that isn't why I'm saying this...I don't care if he comes or not...I have mixed feelings about the subject...
But anyway I think other teams like the Cubs and teams with a little more money than the rest will be trying for him and at the end the Sox will blow everybody out of the water with a huge bid that lands him in Boston.

I definetly see him opting out of his contract. He has Scott Boras as an agent and that influences his decisions. Boras is a shark and can smell a 300 million dollar contract coming his way. I see him going to either the Bosox or the Angels in the AL and LA Dodgers or the Mets in the NL.

I am saying this truthfully even though it is my team, the Red Sox will get A-rod. Lowell is coming off of an awesome year going into free agency he will probably go to a different team for more money and we will be left without a 3B man. This is where A-Rod comes in. But yet again, A-Rod could play SS and the Sox could get rid of Lugo or Detroit could replace him as their SS still being able to keep Inge and his prized arm.

Realistically, there are only 4 places that A-Rod could be in 2008...
NY Yankees, and I think when push comes to shove, he'll stay
NY Mets.....If Steinbrenner isn't 100% senile, I would think he'd do all in his power to prevent this...
Boston Red Sox.....He plays SS if he goes to Boston...but as a Sox fan, I do NOT want the curse of the A-Rod visited upon my beloved team...
And finally...where I believe he WILL end up if he opts out......
The Los Angeles/California/Anahiem/Los Angeles -OF-Anahiem Angels.....ESPECIALLY if they don't win it all this year....which I don't think they will....

I am a Met fan so no bias here.
I do see him opting out and possibly go to the Cubs. He would like to play for Pinella again and that could sway his decision.
