The intelligent ones make money off the less intellectually gifted by putting stupid shows on tv and selling advertising time.

My guesses:
1) Stingy network budgets can't afford better writers.
2) They don't want to out-do commercials and steal focus from them.
Although I have to say, The Office & South Park are pretty funny and intelligent.

They may be intelligent, but they don't know what is entertaining or funny...tv is sooooo bad this summer...pray for fall...
