I'm currently on my 2nd round of depo and have decided not to do a 3rd. I thought the side effects might go away after the first one but I continue to have no sex drive, breakouts, and though I haven't gained weight, it's been impossible to lose any even though I've on a pretty strict workout routine.

My question is, what should I expect? My next shot isn't due until October 7th. Do I immediately just start a packet of BC or do I wait until my peroid comes and then start? Will I even have a peroid? I know that side effects from Depo can linger upto a year.

My husband and I aren't planning pregnancy for at least 5 years, if even then. We might just adopt.

I will be talking to my Doctor but just wanted to get some info first.

Congrats on getting off of depo.

Talk to the doctor who will prescribe the pills on when to start your birth control. Make sure they know you are coming off of depo and your shot was due X day and you have/have not had a period at all.

I started my BCP's (Kariva) when my next shot was due and my periods came back in three months.

When coming off Depo and gong on the patch I had to wait until I got another period (which took about 8 weeks) before starting the patch. I was on Depo for about 2 years and coming off of it was a horrible experience. I had severe cramping (while not on my period) to the point I thought I was going to die (very similar to the cramping during childbirth), I was an emotional mess and I gained A LOT of weight. The worst part was nobody warned me this would happen. I wish you the best and hope that since you were on Depo for a very short time that you do not experience any of these problems.

When I came off Depo the one thing that happened nobody told me about was it REALLY screwed with my hormones. It made me absolutely crazy. I didn't have a period for 8 months, and I gained a lot of weight. It shouldn't be that bad for you because you haven't been on it that long. I also had black bleeding for the first two days due to clotted and dried blood. Bad cramping. You made a smart choice getting off of it when you did, expect some irregularities in your cycle, but it will return to normal within the first couple cycles. Ride the wave and return your body to something more natural.
Best of luck!
