The Age in Melbourne and the SMH in Sydney are both excellent newspapers. If you want the best crossword puzzle you will need The Australian which publishes The Times crossword. The Australian can be good but it has an excess of rabid right-wing columnists. It has been following the Murdoch line and supporting Howard but its editorial policy seems to be changing and is more balanced now.

The Age is the best newspaper with a balanced mix of local, as well as national and international content.
