Slade was a big hard rock band in the 70's and 80's that never really got huge in the United States. They were huge in Britain. As a matter of fact, the only group in the history of England to have more #1 hits than Slade was the Beatles!!!
Slade wrote and recorded some songs that made it big, such as Come on Feel the Noize, but obviously Quiet Riot's remake was popular here.
Go to youtube and type in Run Runaway and watch the Slade video. It's a wicked rocking song that I'm 100% positive you will love.

Dirtie Bertie - huge amongst SE English bikers and unknown to anyone else
Baron Rojo - Spanish Foghat soundalikes from the 80s, I don't know if they are still going
Fester and the Vomits - Great 80s English biker band
Golden Earring - Big in Holland for 45 years but one hit wonders everywhere else(Radar Love; just a typical song of theirs, not their geatest ever)
Brownsville Station - not so much unheard of as forgotten.

Depends what type of hard rock you like, as in "who"
But you should try "Madina Lake".
Their song "One Last Kiss" and "House of Cards" have my vote :)
Their myspace:
http://www.myspace.com/madinalake
Well, I'm not too sure if they're unheard of because I don't live in the US. :\

Captain Beyond. Their CD "Captain Beyond" only. Their other two CDs are too jazzy. [Link below].
