it is true and untrue. cell phones rely on towers on top of buildings to function. if there is no power, (they obviously have backup power) , then the towers will be down and you won't have a cell phone network. they will work fine but no network,

Electricity powers plants, factories, buildings, cell sites, towers of cell[hone companies, etc. but when there is power outrage/blackout, these cell sites, offices, towers are generated by power generators. Unless u haven't recharged ur cp to last for 2 days, of course ur cp goes, blink and poof, u can't turn it on, but if u still have power in ur battery, u can always send msgs, and make calls.

If that means a power cut, then I dont think thats true, mine always works when we have one but it would depend on how large an area it covered I guess, + i expect most of the stations where the signal is picked up has its own emergency power source to deal with situations like that. Mind you im not sure, that just sounds likely to me.

As long as it is charged it should work. Cordless phone won't work but land lines will as long as the phone lines were knocked down with the outage.

hi, phone will work but usually when there are snow storms, the coverage is affected... the way site towers transmitting the signal is affected and results to poor coverage experience. If powers are down, it doesn't matter if the towers have electric generators (usually they have)... but if not, .. its a problem.
