I've found that I'm too unorganised to keep track of taking the pill so I'm thinking I should resort to having an implant fitted in my arm. The whole process of it being fitted seems a bit frightening but I wouldn't mind some extra info on it. Does it give you bad acne aswell?
Another question is; what are other people's experiences with the implant?

I have the implant Implanon, and have had it 3 times, in total 5 1/2 years. I have had no problems with it. I am a little squeamish when it comes to injections and things and dreaded the insertions, but I looked away and could hardly feel a thing. I have kept to regular periods and have not suffered from anything in all of this time. It has provided me with an alternative as I was told not to take the pill due to suffering migraines, and cannot stand needles. It gives me piece of mind as it lasts for so long.

DON'T DO IT!!!! I have had the worst experience with it. Side affects were;
Extremely moody/bad tempered
6 week long periods with a 2 wk break inbetween
total loss of libido
Weight gain
Acne
Headaches
Tiredness
Nausea

Do you want me to go on....lol!
Everyone is different when it comes to birth control but in my experience, nearly all people I have spoken to have had it removed within 12-18mths as it just causes havoc with your body. Having said that, it could be perfect for you.

I ended up back on the pill and hey presto, baby number 2!!
After he was born I got an IUD (march this year) and it is the best thing I could have done. Very light, nearly non-existent periods and they are regular again, libido much better, no extra pimples, not as moody, no weight gain (actually lost a lot of weight, yay!)
Overall worth all the money I paid for it and it lasts 5years for me so it actually saves me heaps of money in the long term compared to the pill every month. And they are heaps easier to put in and take out too. There are obviously risks involved as there are with any birth control but these are negligable considering the effectiveness and convienience.

Definately talk to your doctor about it, I would say he would recommend it over the rod in the arm.

Good luck

I have never had the implant, although I did have the injection that gives you three months supply of 'the pill' in one go - personally I found I felt really weird for the first week after having the jab, almost as if I had had an overdose of the stuff!!

One of my friends had to get it removed - She was experiancing Very bad mood swings & Unpredictable Periods. (sometimes heavy, sometimes not at all) she was becoming anemic due to it. It left her with a nasty scar on her arm. It is also meant to put weight on you.

My Friend highly regrets using it. I can`t speak cause im on the pill - Less Side effects.

I did not like the Norplant at all - my doctor put it in slightly crooked so I always felt and saw it. And my cycles were completely off.
The Mirena iud was much better IMO.

They numb your arm b4 they put it in. It works straight away. You can bleed more than usual or not bleed at all. It varies with different people. You can have it removed as easily as it was put in. Lasts for 3 years.

My daughter has got this implant, since march. We were told to persevere until her periods settle down. we are going back to doctors because she has a nearly continuous period.
