Try finding some information on the M-Theory. Do a Google video search. Scientist are now starting to believe that there are an infinite number of universes existing all around us on different "membranes". We just can't detect them, and we can only operate in the universe that we live in. :)

In current thinking, just the one. But there are theories of... multiverses, basically.

One theory involves the idea that every time you're given a choice (even if it's minor), all choices occur, splintering off into other universes. For instance, under this theory, the moment I decided to answer this question lead to this universe, and another universe would exist where I didn't answer the question, and then there'd be universes where I didn't go on Y!A today, and universes where instead of going online, I watched TV tonight, and I think you get the idea. An infinite number of different universes based on an infinite number of choices.

Kinda makes your head hurt, doesn't it?

Depends if you subscribe to the theory that there is a multi-verse and our universe is just one of many. The theory of the multi-verse came about because of the desire to create one theory that matches the science of the very large and the very small. Have a look at the link below.

Accepted scientific theory indicates there is only our universe although current quantum mechanics "theory" is starting to lean towards the possibility of multiple parallel universes.

The term universe implies there is only one! But in theory there could be an infinate number! You are merely limited by the boundaries of your imagination!

If you consider a Galaxy to be a Universe unto itself than there would be one trillion possible universes.
It is a matter of choice to determine which is better.

This plain truth was expressed in the Qur'an 1,400 years ago. Allah indicates the harmony in creation of the heavens in the verse: Do you not see how Allah created seven heavens in harmony… (Surah Nuh: 15)

Just the one - that's what the UNI means.

If there's more than one, they'd be Multiverses or something similar.
