When u want to start learning to draw what is the best thing to start with: drawing from what u see or drawing form mind ? I mean do u must have some visual knowledge before u can create your own works ? I have been drawing since I was little, but I have been slacking off for about 1 year and a half...now I want desperately to regain that safety in drawing....How can I do that ? Question for experienced artists pls !!!

You have to do both. I also have been drawing since I was little and I learned from both observational drawing and imaginary drawing. To regain the safety is to do it as much as possible as often as possible and believe me it's like riding a bike, you never lose it ;)

You can't imagine it if you haven't seen it and you can't draw it if you can't imagine it. You are just training your hand and your eye and your brain to work together. Any practice you do is an advancement. When I was younger I always had a tablet and some pencils or conte' with me. I was always drawing and I feel that probably helped me the most do develop my talents.

I do my art when I am happy and it is a great sharing thing and make me more happy
I do my art when I am sad and it bring me out of my frump, and allows me to share with friends.
I do my art when I am awake and makes me tired.
I haven't figure out how to do it when I'm asleep.
but working on it.

An artist does not draw things as they are but as he is.
