What scares conservatives the most about this group of people?

Is it their willingness to change in the face of adversity?

Their willingness to embrace new ideas and new things?

The drive to look beyond trivial things which most now know are 'wedge' issues?

There is nothing wrong with being a progressive liberal. The world depends on independant progressive thinkers for its survival. If it was up to conservatives throughout human history we'd in all likelihood still live in caves. This is not as far fetched as it sounds.Conservative forces in that time were against industrialization cos machines were against God.Conservative forces at that time were against the beginning of surgery cos it wasn't men's place to mingle in God's work.Think about that the next time one of your kids has an appendix. If conservatives had always had their way that child would die and that's a fact.
American conservatism as I see it depends heavily on anti intellectualism which explains why they don't bring idea's to the table. There might be a group who really believe all the fear mongering and we can really only feel bad for them but most seem hung up on populism no doubt fueled in them by right wing hate radio and fox news.

On a slightly different note, being liberal (open-minded) has pitfalls. No matter how abhorent some thing may be one has to accept them if one claims to be liberal. Same goes for any other generalisation like that. That does not make one group of people better than the other. The above is usually discuess in philosophy classes or ethics as examples whic are relevant for most part. The simpler answer to your question, don't label people, treat them as inviduals, and life will be simpler.

What's wrong with it is that this group wants to progressively steam roll over others in a vigilante style with all the ear marks of a do gooder or martyrs with a great cause. It is offensive, not open minded. They say they have new ideas but they have only one - socialism. Universal health care is not a new idea. Bill Clinton ran on this idea in his first term. He sold it by telling people it would do away with over charging in the medical care business. When it didn't pass, I thought he still might try to do something about the abuse of charging people well over the actual value of a medical product. But all talk of this just stopped. Why didn't he get the idea to have an agency to investigate complaints of this sort?

Good question - we just have a different and I think better vision. Clearly a lot of the cons who answered here have absolutely no clue as to what liberals really believe in.

The problem with being a liberal is the word itself. Its implication is to give away to the masses. Welfare for example. I would like to see a study as to how many Democrats collect as apposed to Republicans.
Most liberals have some wacky ideas that are too out there.
If there is any one party that represents the tear down of tradition and demoralization of this country it is the democratic party.

Liberals tend to embrace larger governments that wants to tax more and "take care' of people at the expense of the taxpeyer....thats great if you arent a taxpayer but if you pay in 40% of your income now and are looking at more because midnight basketball is unfunded you tend to lean the other way

None of that stuff is bad. It's the absurdity and stupidity that characterizes the current liberal progressive movement that is offensive and irritating.

liberals don't have open minds
in fact they are closed so tightly that they can't understand some people would cut their heads off just because they can.

There's nothing wrong with having an open mind

Only problem: 'progressive liberals' are the least likely to have such minds
