While I was taking a fish out of the freshwater tank, the orange platy jumped out and lost some of its scale, in the water I can see the fish scale floating. Is that a bad sign? How should I treat the fish? Does the scale go back naturally. Please help Thanks!

scales will grow back if the water is kept pristine and you keep a very close eye out for in infection. you can add meds such as melafix to help prevent any infection and encourage regrowth.

Missing scales will grow back without you taking any action at all. Since scales help protect the fish from disease, you will want to make sure the water stays very clean for the next few weeks. Watch the fish carefully for the start of any infection or fungus. You would see either redness around the area or a white cottony growth on the fish. If you see either begin treatment asap.

A fish loosing it's scales is surprisingly not a huge issue. I would buy a product that helps product slime coating though. That will help. Try Tetra- Aquasafe. Watch for redish patches and white spots though, as now the fish is prone to get sick.

don't worry, the scale will definitely grow back.

next time, try not to get too disturbing to your fish. platies jump when they're surprised or scared, so u need to be gentle.
