"Did we let Madeleine down? I'm not sure, but as parents we feel guilty."

So said Gerry McCann in an interview in Edinburgh. So he's still not sure if they let their daughter down but they feel guilty anyway.

What are your feelings/comments regarding this statement? Is it enough to forgive them?

It's too late to feel guilty now, they should know the best for that poor child. They are now the spotlight in the news media, as long as the missing case is open, I think the McCann's is not going to let go. The Portuguese people are now suspecting the McCanns and slowly they are losing their support. Also the longer the McCanns are staying in the country, it will surely have an great impact on their career!

The Bible says:"Let him who is without sin cast the first stone." As a parent, I'm sure I've done something stupid at some time, and I count my blessing every time I look at my daughter that she never disappeared along the way. We've all let our children down. The McCann's thought they were safe checking on their children frequently. They are paying a too high price for having a moment that might have been poor judgement. Forgiveness is not ours to mete out. Sympathy is, and yes, I feel sorry for them.

They can't answer such an innappropriate question - it should not have been asked in the first place. They are being asked to balance their own guilt about leaving their child against a murder. No parent is pefect and no child can be watched all the time. They were undoubtedly stupid to leave the kids - you simply don't do it. But they are not the murderer.
Who are you talking about "forgiving them"? Me?
What is one dead kid in this stinking world anway? It's just a media circus - entertainment for a ghoulish general public.

It's not down to anyone but Madeliene to forgive them. I don't see how he cannot be sure that he has let her down, I don't know why he finds it so difficult to say "yes we we're wrong to leave the children night after night and know our selfish actions have led to our daughter disappearing"

How can he not be sure - you stupid stupid stupid man. Take some responsibility for gods sake. Jesus i feel sorry for their other two kids if they think the decision they made to leave them alone was not letting them down.

They are responsible in some way in this crime. I also believe certain people have some info they need to pass on to authorities: Crispy, for example.

I didn't let Madeline down...I didn't leave her to go to a pub! Her parents let her down! Irresponsible choices have not so good outcomes, and they proved that!!!!
