Questions are easier to handle by getting back from them. Since that is general enough, three pieces of information helps me to start with more specific information to generalize from, I hope that makes sense to you. Science studies everything from energy to spirituality and psychic phenomena. You can start with a question, gather information, the information implies an answer and you rigorously test the information any way you can. the specific categories depent on the science. Obviously in chemistry you might first think of lab and chemical tests. Comparison to any knowledge in the known world, thinking, (they use intuition at every step and perhaps the most important part, but scientists are sometimes reluctant to admit how much), practical, physical tests, theoretical, tests of tests, field testing, mathematics, comparing to other sciences, seeing if there are other examples in nature, guinea pigs, computer models and I suspect everything you can or can't imagine and some not thought of yet. You could classify test as chemical, electrical, mechanical and do it that way.The best science is an art. An art minor minor might even help depending on the branch of science and the level you want to work at and whether it's practical science or theoretical. Einstein was spiritual and intuitive. That's not the popular definition or understanding of science. In school we are only taught what to think, but without making 'new' discoveries your mau be dead in the water.
