Once you pay off the car you only need to buy gas, once you pay off the pony you need shelter, food, water, some place to exercise it like a race track or a wide open field, and other stuff I don't want to say. Plus you can fix cars so they last a long time, but, and sorry for saying this, but a pony will die after time.

A pony? they're much more demanding than a car (but better looking, and much more fun). Just make sure you are able to look after it! Do you have enough land? Is the plenty of all-weather shelter for it? Is there reliable water and feed, or will you have to buy it in? Are you prepared to attend to it EVERY DAY, regardless of the weather or vacations or week-ends or parties and stuff? Can you afford appropriate clothing for yourself, and saddles for different purposes for the horse. Are you prepared to fall off every now and then?
If you answered "yes" to all of those questions, by all means nag for a nag!

With the price of fuel continuing to go up, a pony might not be such a bad idea!

When a car dies it doesn't hurt. I'd go for the car and leave the ponies prancing in the fields.
