They were originally called the 18/22 hundred series. As they were fitted with 1800cc or 2200cc engines.Yes there is a Princess club .I used to work on these cars they were no more troublesome than other cars of this age.Weak points were leaking hydrogas units .The automatic versions were chain driven were borg warner 35ta units these had several design faults and did not last long in service.Go to the unoffical web site austin rover.co.uk all the history is there for you to view.Regards Mick UK.

I dont know about an owners club, but here is my tale of woe. I had a 'P' (1976) princess 1.8 . Good point. It had one of the best rides of its day. But was a nightmare on corners - heavy front end = understeer.+ no power steering. The 'B' series engine was fairly torquey, but mine used a horrendous amount of oil - up to 2 pints a week / 200 miles The joys of British Leyland engineering!! I had 2 replace both front drive hubs - splines sheared under 'normal' acceleration. On the 2200 6 cylinder model the driveshafts used to 'pop' out of the diff without warning -splines too short to deal with front end lift on hard acceleration. Needless to say, mine soon ended up in the local scrapyard. Good riddance to a heap of garbage
