There're more than 150 nationalities in Russian Federation. The majority is Russians, they are (or we are:)) Eastern Europeans. Pure Russian is always fair-haired, with white skin and blue or grey eyes. But there were many different influences during our history, so while walking on Moscow streets I meet people of every haircolour, and they are all Russians.
Of course, among those 150 different nationalities there are many ppl of Asian race. If they live here, they may call themselves Russians, simply because the word "Russian" means both nationality and citizenship.
By the way, if I'm not mistaken, our philosophers started heated arguments about your question (I mean, "Europe or Asia") in 17th century.. They haven't found any answer yet :)

Ethnic Russians are European. That's the problem with the English language - you use one word for both Russians by citizenship and ethnic Russians. In our language we have 2 separate words for these people - "rossiyane" and "russkie". Statistically, 80% of the citizens of the Russian Federation are ethnic Russians.

That would depend on what part of Russia they are from. But wouldn't it be better to simply call them Russian?
