I was thinking about this earlier. The reason I do isn't because I find it funny. I don't find it funny at all, but other people laugh and because they do, I do. So a few people who find it funny laugh and the laughter spreads from there. The other day we were playing basketball at school and this guy got hit in the groin (Which of course everyone think is hysterical- it isn't.) I think its horrible when it happens, not funny at all, and insulting to laugh at the guy- its embarrassing to him, it hurts, and it can be dangerous. Why the hell would it be funny? I use this as an example cause I have a strange...dislike of it. Of people thinking its funny and laughing when it happens and in movies and such. The point I'm getting at? When the guy got hit, I laughed too- even though I was appalled. The reason I laughed? Because, like I said, other people were laughing. Laughing is a social thing. Its a few people who find it funny and they infect everyone else.

In the past where people used to be helpful and kind, they were taught of what to do when a painful situation comes up. They would help them rather ask them if they are okay. In the present day where people are very much less educated and very much less religious, people laugh at other people's simple injury. Their mislead of human behavior has stimulated a sort of sadistic method of cancelling out the pity to the person injured. Thus conclusion, more educated people are more helpful...

Scientifically logical.

Its not so much that they like to see people suffer but more that they expect the person to be fine and it'll be a 'thing to look back and laugh at'. They laugh because relief and happiness comes out in the end.

But notice that if the pain continues, people end up changing their faces rapidly to shock and then fear and worry.

Its a sort of 'Hey, youre alive and fine, so lets laugh and be jolly for life and not be sorrowful!'.

I must admit I think it is funny to see someone fall down. It is not the fact that they may get hurt, but just the act that is funny. People have laughed at me when I have fallen and I laugh right along with them.

It helps dispell the tension that is caused by another person being hurt..that, or they are just not sure what to do..they may think that they probably were not hurt, so rather than ask if they are okay, which might make themselves look foolish, they choose to find the situation humorous.

it depends on the injury i suppose, you dont laugh when you see someone get hit by a car. more simpler accidents like tripping over something or you bumped your head on a light post can be found humorous because it may either be due to a distraction or just plain stupidity.
