Both of my friends are only going to take 3 classes in their freshman fall term. It's not like theyre lazy, its just that that's what their advisor gave them. Looking at my own schedule for fall, 3 classes seems kind of small

It depends on the credit hours each class is worth.

Where I went to school, most courses were 3 credits. If you're enrolled for 9 credits (assuming you have two semesters per school year; fall and spring) you wouldn't even be considered a full time student. 12/semester is the minimum to be considered a full-time student.

If they're all worth 5 credits each, then I guess that's better.

The pace should be to cover 30 credits in on academic year of school. If you do the math and you're not on that pace, your load is too light.

Depends on whether they are on the quarter, semester or trimester system.

For example, most schools are on the quarter/semester system. You have two semesters, so you take around 4-5 classes each semester for a total of 8-10 for the year.

The trimester system (which is probably what your friends are on) means there are THREE seperate breaks with 3 classes each, with a total of 9 for the year.

They both average out....just different options. And it doesn't reflect on the school at all. I went to Notre Dame and we were on Semesters. I've also been to the University of Chicago, which uses trimesters. Both great schools, different systems.

3 classes to not much. I recommend that you take 4 class, half of which are going to be easy and the other half to be much harder. If you want you can take 5 easy classes.

3 classes is too little, that is only 9 units for some.
