Hi. A close friend of mine, in high school, was sort of recently punched near the side of the head, by his eye. Ever since then, every time he would get cut (by accident) and bleed, he would get headaches and dizziness. He won't like to get up, to get food or drinks, etc., because it makes the dizziness worse... from what i've already read, he could have had a concussion when he was hit, and he is recovering, or it could be simple like migranes. He says he won't go to the doctor, unless it gets worse, because there's no reason to/it isn't bad enough. Anyone know a thing or two about this?? Any ideas?

Oh, and he would get headaches and dizziness if he'd bump his head, or sometimes for no reason.

How long ago did he receive the blow to the head?

He should definitely be checked out. If it were just migraines he would've been suffering from them prior to the injury as well, but the way you describe it, he didn't start suffering from dizziness until after he got hit which to me implies the two are related.

You can't "force" him to go to the doctor, but you should definitely be doing everything to persuade him to change his mine and get help asap. Head injuries are nothing to be taken lightly.

He absolutely should see a doctor. This is not negotiable. Even if the symptoms are not dramatic, he's still having them and this could mean that some damage has been done. People tend to dismiss concussions as minor things. They are not. They can be serious. Your friend must see a doctor, and soon!

Your teen friend is in trouble if he gets in fights or is being attacked. He needs to be safe in order to get well. Depression is all about friends and family.
