I understand that it would be kind of difficult to go into a public place and have people call you MEN and then not to mention the fact that we (english speaking folks) have no idea how to pronounce your chinese name? I understand your dilemma and i think that you should keep your Chinese name as a middle name (or 2nd name if that is what you know it as) and then go with something that has the same meaning as your chinese name but translated into english.

I've looked into this a little and also copied the link below. parts of your name have terrific meanings. If you break down your chinese name to just "Yi" for instance this means (according to this website) Joy or Harmony. Those are also very popular and beautiful English names.

I hope this helps you and good luck with finding a suitable name.

It's really important (to me) to know the meaning of your name, so I wouldn't just choose a name that is beautiful to the ear, but I would choose a name that had a special meaning. For instance, my first name is Deborah (people call me Debbie) which means queen bee. That is exactly what I am. I tell everyone what part of the job to do, I watch to make sure it gets done, and I always make people feel at home and well-fed.

That being said, I like my grandmother's name, Margaret (don't know what it means) because then people can call you Maggie. I love the name Maggie Men. I don't know, maybe not.

How about Liberty? To honor the new country you're enjoying?

Gabriella is beautiful. They could shorten to Gabby, if you want.

If you choose to keep your Chinese name, no American is going to remember it. It's hard for us to wrap our minds around a name from a language we don't understand.

Search the internet. I know there's a site where you can go with lots and lots of names, meanings, and suggestions for middle names.

I have asian friends who have english names just because they're tired of their english-speaking friends pronounce it badly, so adding a name doesn't have to mean you're ashamed of who you are. A popular choice is to pick a name with a similar meaning, as a way of acknowledging their herritage. If YingQi means some kind of flower, for instance, you might try Daisy or Rose or Lily or Jasmine. If your name's meaning has to do with a character trait, you might try Hope or Joy or Faith or Honor or Prudence. Linda means pretty, and Dolores mean sorrowful. Gloria is pretty and means glorious. If your name has to do with an animal, you might like going by Faun or Robin. August, June, and May are also names, so if your birthday is in one of those months you could pick one of those. Or if you want a name that begins with the same letter you could try Yvonne or Yolanda or Yvette.

But you really have unlimited choices here. That sounds fun--I'm kind of jealous. Gabriella is a pretty name. Daniella is another one that's similar. Ella is another one that's kind of the same.

If all else fails, you can pick a name that's shared by your favorite actor or your favorite character in a book, movie, or tv show.

Well Gabriella is a spanish name, not english i would go with something simple that is close to your chinese name. What about Ginny ( pronounced Jinny usually used as a nick name for Virginia)

I wouldn't change your name, it reflects your heritage and is unique. Why change it to something boring and common to fit in when so many other people wish they could stand out?

Maybe you could try a nickname that has a more American feel to it? That way you aren't giving up your name, but can still introduce yourself as something a little more familiar to Americans.

If your first name is Ying Qi, how about Yinnie or Quinn?

I don't know, I'm from San Francisco and your name sounds really normal to me, not weird at all. I personally wouldn't worry about it if I were you.

YingQi is a very pretty name. :) Gabriella is pretty too. I also like Elina, Sophia, and Zoe.

I think caidence has a great idea in finding a name similar to your given name. Ginny is a very good suggestion.

Why do you want a Western name?
