I feel bad for the other severum. He has been in "hiding" for the past 3 days! They have gotten along since we got them, but since the last 3-5 days one of them has been chasing the other, even biting or sucking on the lips of the other one. I am not sure what is going on! What do you think?

That happened to my gold severums too. They will do that for a while then become bored and do it again. I watch mine to that all the time. They are testing eachothers streangth to see if they are a worthy mate. (when they bite eachothers noses)

Lip locking can be a sign of breeding-common with a lot of cichlids, as well as territory disputes. Here's a link that tells how to sex them, but it still looks difficult lol. I'd say look for a an egg tube on one might be the easiest way to do it:
