Yes, but it's difficult.
In my state, you have to pull out all the stops to find the missing/hiding spouse, calling everyone they know, private investigators, etc. (not cheap) and then prove to the court that you really don't know where they are. Then you have to buy a classified ad in the paper in the area you last knew they were and your area, which runs weekly for a month (not cheap either). The you can file by default. And you can't settle anyhting, custody, property rights, spousal or child maintenaince payments. Only that you are divorced.

Yes. Laws probably vary from state to state, but your lawyer will know requirements in your state. Generally, they are required to send registered mail notice to last known address, and post a notice in the local newspaper classifieds for 6 weeks. If the other spouse cannot be found and does not reply to the letter or ads, then the divorce can be processed through the court.

Yes you can but you'll need a lawyer for this one. They will have to try to track the other person down and if they can not find them in a certain set amount of time you can file abandonment and the courts will give you an automatic divorce but you do have to show that you and a lawyer have tried to notify the other person.

well i think you have to find this person before you think of leaving this trashy person. I dont htink you can divorce someone that hasnt been served with papers. if they dont show up to court then you are granted the divorce. good luck.
