okay before you answer, READ THE WHOLE THING AND ANALYZE IT!!!. AND IF YOURE GONNA COMPLAIN ABOUT IT BEING TOO LONG THEN DONT BOTHER ANSWERING!!!

okay now that I have that out of the way, here it goes

Why do certain groups feel they have the right to say these things?
why do some groups of people feel they have the right to use some words and others dont? and I mean the deragotory ones, like shouldnt WE ALL or NONE OF US be able to use them? I think wed be more civilized if none of us used them but Ill give you some examples

a)women who call other women B!TC#3$ but dont like it when a man calls another woman a B!TC#(even if she is one)
b)salvadorians who use this word "cerote" or "serote" in front of nonsalvadorians and get pissed when others use them(even if they are not referring to a salvadorian)
c)anybody who is undocumented and uses the word "wet-back" and gets pissed when an undocumented person uses it(even if they have nothing against them)

2007-08-26 17:50:16 · 27 answers · asked by Anonymous in Entertainment & Music Polls & Surveys

d)or when black people use the N-word in public in front non-black people and expect other races to NOT pick it up and use it amongst themselves
e)parents who cuss all the time in front of their kids but dont like it when their kids cuss. if it was so bad then they wouldnt be using it either

and just for the record I am undocumented and dont use the word "wet-back" or if I did I wouldnt have a problem with others using it.
(therefore I am not being biased or anything)

a)only use it amongst themselves and never in front of others who "cant say it"
b)they should let others say it and quit complaining when others "not like them" say it
c)or just stop using it completely just like everyone else

we all wanna be treated equally but also like were special. like which one is it? special or equal? you know what I mean?

Most people are hypocritical, and that is the major reason for your examples. There are times though when the meaning behind the words depends on the person saying them. The only time I would be offended by a word is if the person using it used it with malice. It is not the word itself that causes injury, it is what is meant by the person saying it. As far as your example of the parents and their children I believe that most parents want their child to be successful, and because foul language is often a trait of the uneducated, they try to teach their children that swearing is unacceptable, even though they themselves use those words. We all want our children to have it better and to be better than we ourselves had and are, but most do not think to lead be example, and find it difficult to practice what they preach.

In response to the person whom earlier said to "speak English when you live in America" English is not the official language of the US, we have no official language.

I have read several of the answers myself, and found that majority of them are right. Let me further explain to my best opinion of what I believe to be the best answer:
1.) African-Americans do not use the word ni**er, they use the word ni**a. As it had been explained to me, it is like saying "brother" or "equal". Since one is saying it to another there is NO insult. If someone who is NOT African-American says either one of the words then the African American takes it as a slander based on the Racial Discrimination back in the 60's etc...

2.) Women saying the ***** word to another woman is similiar in nature. Again, let's take the tone of voice, the atmosphere of the conversation etc.. It can be taken as an insult or as a compliment depending on how it is used.

3.) Here is another example. If someone from the South goes up North and uses the term "Yankee". The ones in the North find offense to that, but if used in reverse the North calling the South "Hillbillies", "Rednecks", "Rebels" ...etc...

I believe that it is only used as a slur, or insult when someone else uses a term to describe a race, color, sex, etc...

What you are describing is human nature -

For instance you could hear a parent chastising a child , however if someone else said something bad about the same child... the parent would defend the child.

that is the same principal. People know derogotory words exist and say them when describing themselves but will get defensive is someone else uses the same word in a tone of voice that is either teasing or threatening.

People feel that if they belong to the group that the name or term isn't so derogatory or derogatory at all if they use it, but find it offensive when someone who they can't use the name or term on uses it on them. For example, if I and someone else were being rude and just gobbling up our food and I turned to them and called them a pig, then we'd probably laugh. But if someone who was well mannered and spotless called us pigs we'd probably get angry, because we'd figure they meant it as an offense since they were obviously apart from us in this respect. Or maybe a better example is how you can pick on one of your siblings and it's okay because you belong to the same family and go through the same things, but if someone outside of the family picked on them the same way you'd get angry because they don't share that same bond.

It's that way with many other things inside of any social group. Because of a supposed shared bond certain actions are okay within the group by the members of the group, but are looked down upon when done by someone outside of the group towards members of that group.

I analyzed it and I have a black friend, a Mexican friend and women friends. My black friend told me they call each other by the N word, but don't like white people to do it. I think it is like you can say what you want about your own family, but don't let an outsider open his mouth about yours.

So if they want to call each other wetbacks, cerotes or whatever, let them. There are too many other problems in this world to be worrying about why THEYDON'T WANT US TO USE THOSE TERMS. So, be nice for a change and treat them the way they want to be treated! They have a right to say them to each other - but we are not one of them - so we haven't earned that right. Got it?

It's that whole freedom of speech thing that is taken too literally. And the fact that people get offended about everything these days. It seems as though everyone has a chip on their shoulders. Great question. I don't understand why we all can't speak the same language.

well when a woman calls another woman a ***** it doesn't mean the same thing as when a guy calls a woman a ***** same way with the N-word as you call it. if the N-word is said amongst african americans then its meant differently and isn't offencive but if a white person calls a black person a N-word the meanings change and it becomes offencive.

They are hypocritical. I don't, and won't use those words, unless I don't mind other people using them. I try to avoid using words that I wouldn't want aimed at me.
"Do as I say, not as I do" is an idiotic policy at best. Leadership by example is the only thing that works.
