While I agree on your approach to the fairness doctrine, your approach to discourse - i.e. rude with childish nicknames ("Libtard"?) leaves a lot of room for improvement. Grow up and learn some manners.

Well, since you asked so politely...
Ahhh... the "Fairness Doctrine"... Is this going to be our new 'wedge issue'? You know, one of those issues that each party gets to parade out for fundraisers and election time to remind us how 'fortunate' we are to have this or that party representing 'our interests'.
I think it's very bad! It comes nowhere near addressing the true unfairness of the public airwaves. The real unfairness is the way that everyone, FCC especially, was 'asleep at the wheel' while a handful of conglomerates bought up the mass media. The whole idea there was that it would bring 'fair and balanced' viewpoints, what we got is 'homogenized' viewpoints instead. The government needs to stay out, not jump in and mess with the public doman airwaves... what's left of 'public doman' anyway!
Does right-wing talk radio and left-wing NPR stand out from that? Do FOX news and Democracy Now! news stand out from that? Yes they do, and good for us that they do!! Please, do not let the "fairness doctrine" unfairly stifle and homogenize us then. Don't buy into the politically charged arguments because they'll just divide and conquer us. If that happens, we ALL lose. That's my Libertarian (1/2 Liberal) opinion.
Does that surprise you? Does it not fit your liberal-loathing bias? It just goes to show... not all liberals think alike, as I'm certain that you're not representative of all conservatives. Surely all conservatives cannot be as reasonable and smart as you.

I am not sure I would use the language you are using, but I agree the govt should not be trying to shape what the media is putting out. The govts job should be narrow in scope and the fairness doctrine clearly oversteps that scope. Can we trust the govt to be impartial? I dont think so. Every time a govt has controlled what its media can say has only resulted in censorship.

The fairness Doctrine did practice (because of the fact it substitute into abolished in 1987)to any public airwaves (radio and television). The fairness Doctrine substitute right into a coverage of u . s . of america Federal Communications fee (FCC) that required the holders of broadcast licenses the two to cutting-edge debatable subject concerns of public significance and to realize this in a manner that adjust into (interior the linked fee's view) honest, equitable, and balanced. * this isn't like the equivalent Time rule. The fairness Doctrine bargains with concerns of public significance and has no particular equivalent-time requirement. The equivalent Time rule bargains in basic terms with political applicants. In American political discourse, those 2 rules are often falsely conflated. greater suitable replace your information. the three greatest television conglomerates are Viacom, Disney, and GE. Viacom - owns CBS, Showtime, Nickelodeon, MTV, guess, UPN - CEO is Phillip Dauman a Republican who donated money to the campaigns of Rudy, Obama, and Hillary (lined all his bases) Disney - owns ABC, ESPN, Disney Channel - CEO is Michael Eisner a Democrat who donated money to the campaigns of Obama, Arlen Specter(R), to no longer point out to the RNC (Republican national convention) GE - owns NBC, A&E, Bravo, historic past Channel, CNBC, MSNBC - CEO is Jack Welch, an prolonged time Republican who donated money notably much solely to Republicans like Rudy, Romney, the RNC

1. There is no bill to reintroduce the fairness doctrine - this is just an element of conservative paranoia
2. If it was to be introduced again how do you know what it would apply to
3. The fact that newspapers and networks that endorsed Bush and pilloried Clinton are considered leftist by people like you just shows how extremist the ignorant right are, and how deluded by that ignorance they have become.

You do realize the Fairness Doctrine targeted liberals right?
How you can be so misinformed to allow right-wing gossip to make you fear something that was a conservative creation, I have no clue.
You have as much to fear from liberals wanting to reestablish a conservative doctrine, as you have to fear of people allowing the second amendment to be repealed. not going to happen, but hey if it fits into your little, Rush created dreamworld, who am I to say you don't have the right to live misinformed?

I completely agree. Just part of their Communist movement. Their trying to get ALL of the media on their side. But they are not going to get our radio. They have the TV, the Internet, the Newspapers. What MORE do they want. I won't give up my talk radio.

Because they can't get liberal radio started. That's why Al Franken is running/ran for Senate; he failed at liberal talk radio. Why they can't do it is beyond me, but conservatives are doing it still better than they. Oh, and then there's the truth factor. They hate it when the truth about them gets out.

Because they can't get anyone on the airwaves that people will listen to... That means it is unfair that conservatives have such a loud voice.
