How perceptive of you to ask that.....actually when I bow down, the humility of the action and the Centering aspect of it cause my energy being to flair much higher than my body height...... however....I can stand tall, very tall by a variety of other means......so "No, I don't have to bow down to stand tall, but bowing makes me taller."

Sometimes....yes. I believe compromise can be in a way, considered "bowing down," deference to another under certain circumstances, showing respect. This needn't have anything to do with passivity or humility, nor does it imply one "feels" taller as a result of their "virtues" perceived by others. (A virtue doesn't ask for definition or reward.) We can stand tall without bowing down, but it's often quite appropriate.
Digressing from the metaphor; I've always found the (literal) bowing of the Japanese most enchanting; such a gracious gesture! ....Perhaps it's the same, after all?

I would not say one would HAVE to bow down to stand tall, but one might bow down feeling tall and strong in spite of it all.

Yes. But if you bow down and *know* that you are tall...then you are really not very tall at all....

There is a need to bow for otherwise you will not see the people below you. You indeed the tallest and they are waiting be seen by you being the tallest of them all. Tricky question i think.

Please tell me why I must be the bowed. How can I straighten my back with this enormous weight upon it? I agreed to be the one who would lead, I agreed to be the one who would dwell in madness and solitude. Now the demons have come, as they have always and I am afraid I will break. I must not, if only for the sake of the ones who can free the world. I must fight and retreat, I can make them follow me back to where they chose wrongly. I can't be free. I am the unforgiven. Yet if I am this dirty sin, why would I be the one to show them their lies?

Assalaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh. "Allaahumma iyyaakana'budu walaka nusalli wanusjud" (O Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, You do we worship and to You will we prostrate.) : most effective in 5 instances daily Salaat (prayers) to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala, do Muslim's bow (Rukhu'a) and prostrate on the bottom with their brow, the knees, the nostril and palms of both hands touching the ground. Wassalaamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
