He is not appealing. He has pleaded guilty. The prosecution has recommended 12-18 months for a sentence. He may be asking for the 18 months to be served in three separate 6 month sentences from February through July each year or something like that. The judge probably won't care about his ability to play in Europe or Canada. His NFL days may be done.

He has pled guilty to the federal charges and will go before the judge on Monday. He has admitted to financing the dogfighting operation, attending dogfights, interstate traffic of fighting dogs, bankrolling the gambling, and participating in the execution of 6-8 dogs. As the others have stated here, the prosecution is supposedly asking for 12-18 months in prison. There has been talk also that he is going to inform on other dogfighting rings, and he may get a reduced sentence for this, maybe six months and maybe even house arrest. The judge makes the final decision, he does not have to honor the prosecutions request for the amount of time for Vick to be incarcerated. The judge will not sentence him tomorrow though, that is probably a month or so away.

The state of Va has said they will file animal cruelty charges against all the defendents in the Vick case on September 25th. In his plea Vick admitted to helping the co-defendents kill 6-8 dogs that were not vicious enough to fight. They hung these dogs and the ones that survived the hanging had their heads submerged in 5 gallon buckets of water until they drowned. Virginia has a set penalty of 5 years per occurence of animal abuse. Vick could get up to 40 years in prison on the Virginia charges. Let's hope he gets all of them with no possiblity of parole.

He accepted a plea agreement offered to him by the Federal Prosecutors, the same Prosecutors that indited him on all the bogus charges to make this a HUGE story! They offered him the plea agreement because they didn't have any evidence to back up their case. Plain and simple.
A typical situation of a big name and the United States Government.

Last I heard he is going to get a light sentence because he is tricking on someone else. So if he is tricking on someone else, he gets the conspiracy charges most likely.
