I haven't used them on either of my sons. My two year old was never able to sleep if he was touching anything(being swaddled, a positioner), he wanted to be able to move. My 8 month old has been in bed with my husband and I since he was born, so he hasn't needed one either.

I have heard about that too, but go to www.seattlechildrens.org and read the article on their home page about a study that links abnormalities with newborn hearing tests and SIDS. I actually posted this earlier today because it is an EXTREMELY important development.
I just wanted to add that the above link is for Seattle Children's Hospital Medical Center...one of the top children's hospitals in the country.

When my 2 1/2 son was born I had purchased one that I ended up never using. One of the nurses that took care of me in the hospital had just gotten back from a SIDS conference and told me not to use it. For the first 2-3 months my kids always stayed in whatever position I laid them down in. Once they learned how to roll over they started sleeping on their stomachs, even though I always put them to sleep on their backs. When I voiced concern over this to my pediatrician, he told me not to worry. Once they are rolling over their neck muscles she be strong enough that they can turn their heads if their faces get buried in something.

Used with my two grandkids and they seemed ok. All it consisted of was a couple side supports to keep the baby on his/her back.
A New Zealand study recently suggested sids might be related to toxic mattresses, i think it suggested using an "under the sheet" liner; here's the link
http://www.healthychild.com/cribdeathcause.htm
Keeping the baby on his/her back would keep their face further from the mattress

my 9 week old wouldnt sleep without one in the beginning. I thought they were safe because they prevent older babies from rolling onto their tummies and newborns feel more secure. i love ours
