What is this fascination so many people have with "dark, sombre" music? There must be 10 questions a week like this.
Chopin Prelude #4 in e minor
Chopin 2nd Piano Sonata, 2nd Movement (the Funeral March)
Scriabine Piano Sonatas #9 and #10
Beethoen 3rd Symphony, 2nd mvt (another funeral march)
Beethoven 7th Symphony, 2nd Movement
Brahms 3rd Symphony, 2nd movement
Shostakovich 5th Symphony, 3rd Movement
Then, when you've had your fill of dark and sombre, listen to the rest of these pieces and learn to enjoy the full emotional range that classical music has to offer.

I may be going a bit off-track here but The Beatles song "Because" is "Moonlight Sonata" played backwards.

Moonlight's first movement is very different than the 3rd so which one are you indicating ? but you could find works in the same style. There are many pieces from different composers having similar forms and structure.

There is nothing quite like the moonlight sonata, but I would suggest "Arabesque #1" by Debussy, and the second movement of Piano Concerto #2 by Shostakovich. Neither of these is as sad as moonlight, but they have that nice dreamy quality.

I haven't heard anything quite like Moonlight Sonata... but um... Hmm... Maybe try some of Claude Debussy's piano works.

Some of the other "answers" you've received made me throw up a little bit in my mouth. No accounting for lack of taste.

Well this is probably not what you are looking for, but it has been said that Cole Porter's (a personal fav) Night and Day is his adaptation.
