I would say the kid would need to be big enough to put feet on the pegs, and know how to hang, on when to lean, and read your signals. The answer is kind of child specific barring the laws of the land.

Absoultely. Our whole family has Harleys. My 2yo has ridden up and down the driveway sitting in front of daddy. I've seen child seats that strap to the driver and have a set of handlebars for the child to hold onto. If I can find the seats again, I'm getting the seat and a helmet for my son's 3rd birthday so he can ride the Harley with Daddy.

in ohio, there is no passenger age restriction, where in louisiana, passengers have to be at least 5 years old if the kid is properly seated on the bike, and that he/she has a helmet on.

state laws vary. find ur state here with all applicable laws. http://www.amadirectlink.com/legisltn/laws.asp

If riding as a pillion, the child (or any one else for that matter) must be able to rest its feet on the footpegs for the UK.

Not sure about side car rules.

I'm a "yank" but love your answer easygoing. Some people just don't think when they as these questions. Even if it was only the states we still would need to know where they lived.

mdcbert.. assumes your a YANK... cos with this site being WWW (world wide). only the yanks would use it... BUT.. no there are people in the world that know as little as the YANKS.. so you could be anywhere... but you dont allow email or instant messaging.. & have SFA (that would be NO) information on your profile... SO I get to be psycic.. & guess your in the UK... if they can hang on they can ride on the back... My daughter was in the side car on the bike when she came out of hospital .. only a few days old.. nice & warm in Australia...( & back then didnt need a helmet in the chair)

which brings us to another point... if the helmet fits properly they can get on the back.....

Where are you?
Here, they must be able to reach the footpegs.
They do not have to be in the factory location, either.
