The people. The nicest in the world.

The food. 'Nuff said!

The culture... a beautiful mix of old tradition and new ways.

Also, it's nice to live in a place where you don't have people talking up war, as if it's a positive thing (ie the United States). All I hear around here is talk of peace. I could easily live forever in a place like this.

I moved here right after college. My first job was with a Japanese company, and I've worked exclusively for Japanese companies.

My career here has developed to a point where if I moved back I'd almost be starting from scratch. Not only would I be on a lower rung of the career ladder, I'd be abandoning all my friendships I've developed in Japan over the years.

Additionally, I have a child that attends Japanese public school. Even though she is bilingual, I want her to have continuity and develop her own close friendships that come about from having a stable school and home address.

While I'll probably never be rich here, I enjoy a good quality of life (good schools, good health insurance, good work environment) and am fairly comfortable here.

Most foreigners who go to Japan and stay are married.

Most unmarried foreigners stay in Japan for 5 years or less. Some stay longer, though.
