Everyone is completely different, and it is not unheard of for a sixteen year-old to just be getting her period. What is more important is: does she look developed? If she looks like a thin boy, then no problem, but if not, then she should go in for an examination. In any case, if she does turn sixteen and still doesn't have it, then do make an appointment for her as some blood work or an internal examination may be in order.

I am not sure what is considered medically appropriate. However I was almost 16 when I got my first period, also a sophomore and I am 25 now with 2 kids so it didn't hurt me any. I was a very active teen, I danced. And I was worried that I hadn't started and friends had so my mom took me to a doctor and he said that active teens often start their periods and or even develop late.

Some girls who are athletic delay their period by years. Athletic girls can not get their period until 16-18 years old. If she hasn't gotten it by 15 then she should go to the doctor and get checked out.

each girl is different and developes differently, i got my first period when i was 13yrs old(and it was only 2 days long) and then never got another one until i was 19yrs old. I was checked by the doctors and told i was just fine. I agree with the one poster if you are very active and stressed at school it can delay your period from coming. Not only that but an unhealthy diet can also delay a period.

It can range form girl to girl. The general rule of thumb is to expect your first period around the same time that your mom did. My cousin started hers at 9, I started at 13. I haven't heard of any one starting later than 15 or 16. I would suggest that she see a doc or gynecologist to make sure that there isn't something else going on. I know that it can be embarrassing to talk about but better safe than sorry.

my 15 year old daughter hasnt had her period yet either...but i got mine when i was 17 and im 37 so most likely your sister might have a aunt's or mother's genes and have it around the time they did...but either way every body is different and some develop faster and some take their time to fully mature

some people dont get it until there 16 soon enough it'll come, she's lucky she doesnt get it. once she does she'll appreciate the time when she didnt have it. if after 16 she doesnt have it they say you should go to a doctor.
