When using one of those DIY Carpet cleaners you have to be extra careful NOT to saturate the carpet or the underfelt of the carpet, and vacuum up the fluid very well, or it will smell of mold (and anything else that was in the underfelt - like urine). You really have to get the underfelt dry - perhaps by heating the room and using a fan to direct the air across the carpet, or it may be bad enough to take drastic action - either call in a professional to clean and dry the carpet, or get rid of the carpet AND underfelt.
Sorry but when using those at home cleaners you do have to be very vigilent about the drying/sucking out the water stage.

Hey im a maint guy at an apartment complex and what it sounds like is the you cleaned it with a carpent cleaner you can rent from walmart for 20bucks....they are very cheap and dont do a really good job. The cleaning machine prob left too much water in the carpet and turned to mildew...either A) Redo the carpet again and after you are done cleaning it just put it on the sucking mode only and go over it a couple of times or B) Bring in a Professional to do it, it will cost a bit more money but worth every penny. I would go with plan B because its a one time cost and can do SOO much better than what you already go....also dont go cheap with the carpet cleaner you decide to go with...trust me it never works out well..good luck

I would just save a lot of grief and call someone out to professionally clean it. They have some great natural, environmentally friendly products that will take care of it. The last thing you want to have to do is replace your carpet, or worse, your sub-floors. Urine can soak through to the wood foundation and be costly to repair. Concrete foundations are a little more forgiving, but they can still retain odors for a long time.
Spending a little more will save your sanity in the long run, and if a stain "reappears", you can call them back out to touch it up. This happens a lot will stains, you're not alone... You have to get it clean all the way through to the pad.
Good luck and God bless.
Replacing may actually be your only option here though. Don't go super cheap on that either, like HomeDepot. Go with a company that will give you great service AND a great price...
***P.S. Try those puppy diapers. They even have washable ones for those dogs who chew up the disposable ones. Let your washer machine to the dirty work for you. ;) You have to deal with the "yuck" anyway...

They have foam carpet sprays for pet odors that does not have to be vacuumed up. They are made by Arm & Hammer. Also, try putting vinegar mixed with water in the carpet cleaner and going over the carpets again, and then using the foam spray. The vinegar smell will disepate after a day or so.

If the urine got into the pad underneath there is nothing you can do. The carpet cleaner cant get to that. You can let it dry and try some febreze or other odor killing spray. Worst case - you have to replace the pad underneath, and if that's the case, you might as well do the whole carpet.

The carpet has to be really dry for the smell to be gone. If you have air conditioning, try turning it real cold. You must not have sucked the water up enough.

you have two options.
One is to rip out the carpet entirely. That's what I did. Once the pee is there, you're NEVER going to get it COMPLETELY "out".
The other is to call in a pro (Stanley Steemer, etal.) They have special stuff that they can use to mask the stuff, but it's never going to completely come out.

Sprinkle with baking soda and use a broom to scrub it in. Let it set a day and vacuum.
