I see opportunity here. If you want to be someone else you are half way there. There need not be anything wrong with who you have been all this time. As we live in this temporary world, with everything in transition all the time, it seems perfectly natural to become someone else periodically. Few of our decisions are written in stone. We can almost always choose again, if we find what we chose last time, isn't working out in reality as we had hoped.
Try someone else on for a while to see how it feels. It is a small thing. Often the behaviors that seem so monumental to you, will seem like nothing new to your friends and associates.
I often participate in seminars. One of the seminar rules is that I must wear a name tag when I am in the seminar room. I do find the name tag fun to play with. I trade name tags with others as a form of play and to allow me or them to try on a different persona. Sometimes the name tags I wear are blank. Sometimes I make drawings on the name tag insert.
What am I talking about?
We live by rules that we make up and that are in addition to the RULES. These extra rules we make up are self imposed limitations.
There is no rule about who you can choose to be.
Change your name and your diet and clothes. Change where you live and your friendship circle. Change anything that seems to be limiting you.
Every moment everything is changing. Hanging on to some out lived idea of yourself will just hold you back.
Let it go. Set it down. Live new every day.

I like what Eliza said. In addition really try to see why is it that you want to be that person. Do you want to have more adventure in your life, respected more...what is it that you think they have that you don't. Most of the time they don't, you just think they do because you need it. When you know what your missing try to find ways to fulfilling it. Join an outdoor club if you need adventure, become a mentor if you need more respect, give love if you need love. If they have mannerisms that you like better then your own, which ones... are they more sophisticated or more free...see which bad habits you can stop that would help you feel as free or sophisticated. Beware Sometimes we have false ideals, and sometimes it takes millions of baby-steps to better yourself. For example becoming successful would be a long journey.

Be proud of yourself. I didn't know what everyone meant when they would say "get to know you". Especially when they meant "you know yourself". Things like, what you like on your pizza, what cereal you prefere, etc. are easy. You have taste buds that help you answer those questions. Learning about the type of people you should surround yourself with, or types of behavior you can or cannot tolerate are a little on the advanced end. But once you discover how unique, and special you are and how you deserve to be appreciated for who "you" are, there is no better person to find. So, in short, love yourself better than that someone else you think you'd rather be. You deserve better for yourself.

Here are two phrases that you can ponder:
"Trying to be someone else is a waste of the person you are"
"Its better to be hated for who you are than loved for who you are not"
I hope these help a little.

You have to be strong to fight this feeling. It all begins in you. No one else can help if you do not try. I believe you can kick this habit for all. You must have faith in yourself and be positive. You must think that you are much better and perfect to think of being other person. Why should you?

By wanting to be yourself and that takes self confidence. Realize that everyone is not perfect and that you are in itself, a unique creation that has never existed ever before on the earth.

1. focus on all the negative aspects on being that person
2. focus on all the positive aspects on being yourself
3. face the fact that that the reality is you can never be that person so you're just wasting your time dreaming.
