Just try to be independent and know yourself... I don't mean what songs, friends, clothes you like(those change as you age), I mean what really has always interested you, what you really always liked. For example what gives me a high is helping people, always being there. Find your really core values. what do you want to live by... mine is Love, Loyalty and honesty... I know that I will offer that to all my friends unconditionally. But I think we all have different 3 values that is the ultimate. You can't find it by guessing and trying which most teens do... but by spending some down time with yourself and doing self reflection.
It is also important to learn your social skill, which I almost forgot cuz I got caught up with self reflecting too much. You have to realize how people ( not other teens, cuz they are irrational) react and how you need to react to do what you need done. Start making goals, like what direction would you like a career in. Everyone will look up to you if they see that you know what you are doing in your life. It will also give you lots of self confidence which teen year deplete.

Why are you afraid of taking care of yourself and improving the life you have? Think about what you do have today, your young, healthy and haven't even experienced life.Step back and look at the possibilitys waiting ahead. Don't stress over something you might think will happen to you, think of all the good that will happen to you. Think positive thoughts and believe in them .Life is to short worrying about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of it's own, so relax and enjoy life. Good luck and God Bless.

Look at the consequences of not doing so. You might end up sad and alone because, while you are waiting for those bad and embarrassing things to happen, you never bothered to do anything with your time.
So if I were you, I'd go and have a shower, do my homework, then go and find something to do. Cook dinner for your mum. Cooking is a useful skill, and your mum could probably do with a rest. Especially if you've been walking around with this kind of attitude for any length of time. She didn't give birth to you so you could not bother living!

You sound like your living in a "what if" world. Anything can happen. Bad things, like those you are afraid of and GOOD things. Good things that you could be denying yourself if you don't take that step into improving your life. People say that fear is an emotion we express normally over the unknown. But until you do something for the first time and over come that fear, it will always be unknown-hence, fear. In short, don't be affraid of the "what if something bad or embarrassing will happen", live for the "what if something great comes of this".

I'm 20 and a guy, still studying. My parents still take care of most stuff for me so I can concentrate on study. I would love my independence but, however it is just not possible considering my career path which takes me through medicine.
Don't push yourself to grow up too fast. Just wait patiently, the day will come when YOU are ready to look after yourself. And stop worrying and stressing, when you're my age you start to realist that life is too short for that!

Go with the flow and roll with the punches. Why worry if it only makes things harder? I know that it's harder said than done to not worry, but it makes things easier. You'll learn to take care of yourself as time goes on, but as long as there's help take it! Don't worry-- things will work out. Just make sure you're not too stressed a lot, but it's okay to feel stressed on occasion cuz that's normal. Good luck!

What happens if none of it comes true?
You've wasted your youth on a mirage of your own making.
The more you worry about something bad and embarrassing happening to you, the more likely it will happen. Especially when you find the bad and embarrassing things that happen are due to your lack of skills and not looking after yourself.

If you don't start learning to take care of yourself now, you are going to have lots of trouble later on. How do you think you will be able to get a job later in life? Unless you plan to live on a deserted island as a hermit, get your act together.
