Like all hysteria its caused by a rumor, a situation that has no final outcome or answers. For example, theres a situation and then a little panic, the person concerned starts ringing a few people and they start ringing other people and no answers have solved the problem and then it escalates out of hand without doing anything, it just derives out of a word spoken. Just like a broadcast saying there is a UFO at the beach, everyone heads there but they don't know if it is really their.I learn t this in collective behavior in sociology.
