If so, what did you think and how long did it take you to go through it? Would it take more than one day to see it all?

Thanks for your answers. I wondered if I would actually get anyone who has been there. It is funny that some of you say "worth the trip". I live maybe 15-20 minutes away from it. I have been once but I was really little and don't remember it. I was planning on going wednesday, and wondered if I would be able to see it all from about 10am to 4pm. I think I will. Thanks again for the answers!

I have been to the Nelson many times. I am an art fan and a bit biased, but I think it's a great museum.

How long does it take to go through? That depends on how much of it you see and how much time you spend with each item. If you read every bit of information on every single piece of art then it could take you a while. I would recommend that you walk through the entire thing and read at least a sample of the more impressive pieces. Spend more time in the areas that interest you most. Whatever you do, you shouldn't have trouble making it through the entire museum in 6 hours.

The last time I went, it took a total of 45 minutes to race through, but then I was with two antsy, hungry, let's-go-do-something-else preteens and a date that wasn't going to work out! I'm going to assume it would take about a day to really browse and look at all the interesting finds and displays. With the right museum partner, it can be a fun day trip.

I could spend weeks there but one can do the whole thing in half a day by walking really fast.
I also enjoy the Kemper Contemporary Art Museum. It is a block or so away from the Nelson-Atkins.

I used to live in Lawrence, and have been to the Nelson many times. It is a fine museum, especially noted for its Chinese collection. Plan at least half a day, but you could spend more time. Also, it's close to the Plaza, which you want to see if a visitor to KC.

I've been through it many times. It is well worth going. You can see it all in one day if you just glance at things and keep moving. Or, you can break it up into several visits and only do a part at a time. It is relatively inexpensive to go to. I now live in San Diego and make a point of going whenever I am in KC.
