Usually the classics do this.

I remember when I read David Copperfield by Charles Dickens I so loved the book that I immediately started to reread it. I just felt all the characters in the book were so alive and I was in love with all of them (even the bad guys). I couldn't leave them so I joined them again.

A good novel (fiction) should always do this. I know I tend to dream about really good books and put in some plot twists of my own. It gets interesting.

Nonfiction is not designed to draw you in, but inform you.

Oh, and I would like to exclude most, but not all, romances from being good. Those turned out by a certain New York publisher are bubble gum (designed to keep you busy for a couple of hours, but not make you think). The romances coming from the small publishers, though, are another kettle of fish. They push the envelope with stronger heroines and a lot stranger situations.

On the whole, if a book doesn't captivate you, you should go looking for a different book. Chances are that the one you are reading is a formula novel published out of New York to suit their marketing needs. You can definitely do better.

Most every book I have read has done this for me.

I'm continually searching for good authors.

I usually always read a book that someone recommends too.

I get paranoid if I don't have at least 3 books waiting in the wings to read.

What would we do without books?

It sickens me when I think about the burning of the books, just before World War 11.

Thanks for the question.

It's text is something I can identify with and sticks with a plot. So many books wander off into side tales and I am left with the question "who did murder neighbor Bob and left his body in a fountain?" Surely it wasn't the horse that everyone is betting on to win the third race at Santa Anita.
