When you hug somebody do you do it with one hand or both?

Depends on how well you know the person. If you know them really well you might use both arms (and hands). But, if they are really big or fat people, you may have to use the hug-n-chalk method whereby you reach around them as far as you can and put a chalk mark. Then you move around them and start at the mark and try to complete the hug. For really big ones, like Rosie O'Donnell you might have to use two chalk marks.

it def depends on who the person is. i host a lot of parties, i was very well known in high school so a lot of people know me. i'm very affectionate even with people i don't like or barely know. on account i have met so many people i can't always remember names and a good way to apologize before hand is to give a hug with one underarm tug. usually the person has no reason to back off and you establish a certain 'i like you this much...' kinda thing. i will ask where they know me from and from there i take it, i usually make friends very easily. you know what they say, keep friends close and anemies closer. anyway, my loves ones i will hug with both hands and depending on the height its either above their shoulder or under with both hands and a rub on the back. i even tend to jump on some of my girlfriends and wrap my legs around them... just to show some love, nothing sexual. since im spanish we shake hands and hug with a pat in the hand for man and for women a kiss one the right cheek and a kiss on the left then you let go the hand.
everyone is a little different, specially culturally. although i must say that i no longer kiss a lady on the cheeks when i meet her, i guess its weird in in the united states to do that, and when your in rome do as the romans do.

Well usually if my hands are full I hug a person with only one hand not both but if both of my hands are free I hug with both hands ^_^ : )

both, I hug my son with 1 hand cuz as he sits in his car, it's kinda hard to get 2 hands around him. I do like the 2 handed hug too.

If I hug a person I use both hands as a sign of appreciation, acknowledgment, support and love for the person's achievements, accomplishments and work well done especially his struggles.

I hug adults with one hand! like the pat on the back half hug, and I don't do that if I can get away. (I'm really not that much of a hugger) but my husband and my kids get big bear hugs all day if they want them!!!
