No, because it R rated movies states that a person 17 yrs older can attend the movie alone or with parents. However since its restricted for 17 and older. A minor is not aloud.
But HEY listen have your 17 yrs old friend or some one older buy an extra ticket at the box office while u wait for that person at the concession stand to give u the ticket for the R rated movie. Because the ushers who return the stubs usually are busy cutting tickets and counting. The will NOT CHECK FOR AGE.
Trust me I have worked in a theater last summer. :)

Well, think of it this way -- your parents are older than you, and when children want to see a R-rated movie, then the parents need to show I.D. So as long as you have I.D. to prove that you are officially of age, then there should be no problem when it comes to taking the minor to the movie.
Good luck!

I think so. The age limit for watching a rated-R movie is 17. So I would say yes.

I worked at a movie theater once. You must be 17 to get in by yourself, but 21 to be a guardian to a younger viewer. If you get caught you'll get removed from the theater.
