My son was jsut born 3 days ago and for him being my third child i thought he would weigh more at birth. I know that if he wasn't healthy we wouldnt have been released from the hospital, but I'm just a little concerned or maybe its just post baby blues. He was also born at 38 weeks, does that have anything to do with it? He's eating really well but I'm still very nervous.

also my older 2 children were born bigger, my daughter was 4 days past her due date and weighed 7 lbs 11 0z at birth and my son born a 37 weeks weighed 7lbs 1 oz. I've never smoked during pregnancy and have always gained the recomended weight. I guess this guy is just a bit smaller.

I just had my lil girl last week, she was 3 weeks early and she weighed 6 pds 9 oz and 18.5 inches. 18.5 inches is a lil on the shorter side but still average on the scale. Don't worry all is fine. My girl is in premie clothes because her legs are so short but they said I have nothing to worry about. Congrats!!

Sounds like a good weight for Baby.
I'm on the opposite end of the scale.
My first baby (now 10) was 9lbs 4oz and 23 inches. She was the heavy-weight in the nursery that week. She's still a BIG girl. 5'2" and 150lbs. And still growing.
My 2nd is now 4 and was 8lbs 4oz and was 21 1/2 inches. She's now 40lbs and 45 inches tall. She was also born at 38 (1/2) weeks.
All babies are different. I was my Mom's smallest and am now the biggest (not tallest. I'm the second shortest). My Mom's biggest baby is now the smallest. My sis weighs 100lbs soaking wet and was over 9 lbs at birth. She's also 26 so no more growing is possible.

Compared to most American babies he's small, but if he's eating well and seems healthy then I wouldn't worry. For a baby that was born 2 weeks early, that sounds like a good weight to me.
My son was born at 40 weeks and weighed 6lbs 10oz and was 18.5 inches. He was at the 5th percentile for weight. But he gained weight quickly in the first couple of weeks after birth and has stayed small, but is very active and healthy. Since your baby was born earlier I am sure he is fine.
The most important thing is that he is eating well and that the two of you are bonding well. Be sure to talk to your doctor if you feel like you might be feeling some depression. It is totally normal, but don't just let it go. You should talk to someone. Your baby is doing great!

He's a little small, but its fine.
I believe the average baby is 7 or 7 1/2 pounds and like 20 inches.
My baby was 5 weeks premature and was 5 1/2 pounds 19 inches

My biggest child was 6 lbs 5 oz and now they are all over average for their ages! It probably has more to do that he was only 38 weeks, especially if you are comparing him to your other children and they were born at 39 or 40 weeks. I am sure he is perfectly healthy. Try not to stress and just enjoy him!

That is an average sized baby.
You also have to remember that the baby really piles on weight the last month of pregnancy, so he'd have had two weeks less time to grow than your other two.
He's fine and healthy and he'll grow to be a very strapping young man.
Don't you worry, just enjoy him, because he won't be that size for long!
Good luck!

Yes. You really should get a book on parenting.
6# 5 oz is a good size. If it were 5# and premature that would be a problem.
If you know that APGAR scores that would have been beneficial to you. Next time you go to the doctors ask. Just keep in mind. Check your insurance to see if you have a 24 hour free nurse help line and please pick up a book from the library.
