As Occult is dealing with supernatural influences, agencies, or phenomena anyone in any religion falls under the label. Those involved with Magick in any way also fall under the label.
There is no bad or good, unless you are against all religion, the crafts, and Magick.

You want to know about the occult or a cult? The occult usually refers to knowledge that is hard to find or is not generally known or is kept hidden, knowledge of a spiritual nature. A cult is a group of people in a religion that is outside of the mainstream. You can have a christian cult that worships Jesus but their other beliefs are way different than most other churches. You might say that Christianity started off as an occult cult because they had to hide from Roman officials and their religion was way different from the Romans.

A cult is a group of people all believing intently the same dogma. The occult is anything that cannot be explained by science. I think you mean a cult. Cults are very interesting. See the movie, Helter skelter, for a peek at what life might be like. However in some cults, they ask for large sums of money, have many rules about behavior, and are often hard to leave. People with low esteem seem especially drawn to cults because of the charismatic leaders. Charles Manson, leader of the Manson family, drew people in by telling them they were special and worth something then asked some members to kill people and demanded money from others. Being a cult is not necessarily a bad thing, although not many cults last long due to their strict behavioral standards

I dont think you can be in a occult, however i think you can be involved in the occult, one thing to remember is that magick is neutral it’s the user that makes it good or bad… so it being a good or bad thing would depend on your intentions. The occult is very interesting, it reminds me of the Alice in Wonderland story when she asks herself how deep the rabbit hole goes… its goes very deep and you don’t know what you’ll find until you get there! Its interesting because it gets really scary sometimes and other times most eye opening!
As for a cult… leave them alone, and let them be until you know exactly what your getting yourself into!!

The occult is anything that is strange or hidden. It's not necessarily good or bad. I find some of the occult to be interesting, mostly because my religion, Wicca, is considered to be within the occult.

The original use of the term "cult", from sociology, simply means "small religion". The connotations of mind control and other craziness was added later by the sensationslitic media. Christinaity started out as a cult.
"Occult", as others have mentioned, means "hidden". It generally refers to esoteric knowledge which, ironically enough, can be found at the local bookstore in the metaphysical section. So much for secrecy.

The word Occult is a latin word meaning-Hidden. You cannot be in an Occult. You may be in a Cult, which is taken from the word. It usually means an organisation that is secret, and not generous with it's information.Bit like the FBI or CIA for instance.

Depends on the one you are talking about. Some occults can be wiccan covens while others can delve in black magic and satan worship.
