I think pretty much people of all countries listen to "English" music because it's coming from some of the most dominant cultures. But they also listen to music from their own countries. For instance, in Japan they are very familiar with American and UK singers, but they also have their own, like Gackt, Hyde, and Atsushi Sakurai. People from other countries appreciate our music, but they have their own.

Empire and USA. Also some is to do with History, in WW2 Finland was invaded by Germany and had some bad experiences, so when they wanted to join EU, few spoke French and German was not liked, to the annoyance of the French the Finns insisted on English as one of the Official languages of the EU, obviously UK did not object, but until Finland joined English was not an Official EU language. Good press in the past. And John is talking tripe as usual.

Certainly most of Europe and the Americas. (Although Latin pop dominates in Spanish-speaking countries). The French disapprove of English-language pop but still listen to it.

I don't know about Asia - in particular China - how prevalent is anglophone pop there ?

I think you are wrong, I don't think India and China are particularly big on pop music. I think you are right about about most western culture countries though.
