I plan on flying to UAE on a visit visa and then look for a job there. I like to meet people face to face rather than email and over the phone. Plus there are a lot of scams out there. I'll only have about $4000.00 dollars US in savings. Is it a good idea? I will live in Sharjah because I heard that it is a lot cheaper than Dubai and it is also close to Dubai. I'll rent a car and drive from Sharjah to Dubai and look for a job. Is it a good plan?

yes its a god plan to come here and search for jobs directly urself . as there r a lot of agents who do fleece employees . and even give false promises to bring them here and not fulfill them . but before u come u may apply on line to some local recrutment agencies and let them know when u will be in dubai so they can arrange for ur interviews before hand . this will give u head start and u will not waste time after arrival. local news papers will give u all the addresses for agents . also suggest u put an add in one of the local news papers before or on arrival and give ur contact . any other help if u need let me know.

Yes. Make ready for an International Driver's License. You don't necesarrily have to live in Sharjah to look for work in Dubai. Its very difficult especially when its hot and traffic. Best way for you is to get a bed space or share a room on available flats in Dubai. This way, it will be more accessible and easy for you to 1) look for jobs then rest, 2) fax/internet then go for an interview, and 3) shop or buy the things that you need. When you already have a job, then you can move to Sharjah if you want too. However, moving to Sharjah requires you to have a transportation which is extra cost. See first what the company will offer you especially on accomodation and how you will be brought to your place of work. In my case, I arrived in Dubai on a visit visa. Got hired and looked then stayed in a flat near my office. Unfortunately, my company did not provide me an accomodation and transportation. So it saves me cost.
