Because it's obviously the place where all the little bugs gather. I bet if you used the side or back door for a couple days and then looked, you'd see all the caught bugs in the web. Apparently the spider finds the prey to be worth the effort.

My guess is that it may be a different spider taking advantage of a good location to weave a web.Spiders operate on instincts alone.
